Chanticleer

Chanticleer, multiple GRAMMY® Awards-winning vocal ensemble, is renowned worldwide for its versatile repertoire and breathtaking virtuosity. Founded in San Francisco in 1978, Chanticleer has become one of the most prolific recording and touring ensembles globally, captivating audiences with over one million recordings and countless live performances.

With a repertoire spanning Renaissance to contemporary compositions, Chanticleer's musical offerings showcase classical, gospel, jazz, and popular genres. They are dedicated to commissioning new works, evident in their GRAMMY® Award-winning recordings of Sir John Tavener's masterpiece "Lamentations & Praises" and the stunning collection "Colors of Love". Recognized for their adventurous programming, Chanticleer has been honored with the Dale Warland/Chorus America Commissioning Award and the ASCAP/Chorus America Award.

Named after Chaucer's melodious rooster, Chanticleer remains deeply rooted in San Francisco. In addition to their ambitious programming, they engage in extensive educational outreach and host the beloved annual concert series "A Chanticleer Christmas".

Founded by Louis Botto in 1978 in San Francisco. 2021-22 is the ensemble’s 44th Season.

Members:

The multiple Grammy Award-winning all-male vocal ensemble is comprised of 12 singers hailing from across the U.S..

​

Repertoire:

Chanticleer’s repertoire spans ten centuries from Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony and Romantic art song to contemporary music, jazz, spirituals and world music.

​

Concerts:

Chanticleer gives approximately 100 concerts a year throughout the world, appearing regularly in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Chicago, and Internationally, as well as its home base of San Francisco.
