WINDSYNC WIND QUINTET

WindSync Wind Quintet opened the 23rd season of Friends of Chamber Music concerts. As always, each performance is accompanied by an outreach event offered within our community. In the morning of Friday, September 21, WindSync presented, in music, the story of “Peter and the Wolf” to students of the Crockett Elementary School in Bryan. Sergei Prokofiev wrote this work in 1936 for a children’s theater in Moscow with the goal to introduce young students to music and to sights and sounds of musical instruments. Each character in the story, Peter, Bird, Duck, Cat, Grandfather, and Wolf, is represented by one or more of the instruments. Friends of Chamber Music greatly appreciates the partnering of Crockett Elementary School and WindSync Wind Quintet for this musical offering and instrumental awakening experience of the young students.

"Crockett Elementary was thrilled for the privilege to have Windsync Wind Quintet come and perform Peter and the Wolf for our staff and students. The group did an excellent job teaching our students about instruments in the wind family and bringing the story to life through music.

Thanks to the Friends of Chamber music for bringing them to our school."

AMERICAN BRASS QUINTET

Penny Zent, a Retired Station Manager of KAMU-FM, introduced the American Brass Quintet concert on November 27, 2018. Here is an excerpt from the message that Penny Zent delivered onstage of First Presbyterian Church:

“I am honored to be here tonight to introduce the distinguished American Brass Quintet.

I am not going to tell you about the group’s bio or history because you can read that in your program. What I am going to tell you about is the rich history and devotion to education that is part of what the American Brass Quintet and Friends of Chamber Music do behind the scenes.

Earlier today, the Quintet met with the College Station High School Band. They not only played for the students but afforded the kids the opportunity to interact with them, ask questions, and learn about the Quintet’s instruments.
In this season of “believing,” what a remarkable opportunity for these students to not only hear world-class musicians performing just for them, but to perhaps hear something that will spur them on to greater heights not only in their own music making, but ideas that cross over into other disciplines as well!
Thanks to the Friends of Chamber Music for making this kind of opportunity available for each of the performances they present to our community.”

On November 27, College Station High School Band hosted an outreach event by the American Brass Quintet.

"The outreach program that the American Brass Quintet lead at College Station High School was great. Everything went very well! The American Brass Quintet are phenomenal musicians. Our Band students really enjoyed their music and had some great questions for them during the discussion part.

We really appreciate Friends of Chamber Music for bringing them in and reaching out to us."
